
The problem started small. At first, I just saw a flash when opening a browser window. I thought nothing of it. Later, the screen blinked black for a second while I was watching a video. Another time, the display looked blurry after waking my PC from sleep. Somewhere around then, I realized things were off.
Over time, the glitches became more frequent. Unfortunately, they didn’t always happen. That made troubleshooting more difficult. Some days my screen worked perfectly for hours. Others, it would flicker multiple times before lunch. Eventually, I started to fear my monitor was going out or maybe my graphics card was on its last legs.
BUT before I tossed out money on new hardware, I decided to check my drivers. That decision ended up being a good call. I hadn’t manually updated my graphics driver in quite some time. Windows would install updates for my PC, but I never double-checked if my display driver (and other system drivers) were up-to-date.
I suppose I could have gone into Device Manager and manually searched for each driver I wanted to update. I’ve done this in the past, and it can be time-consuming. You’ll need to know exactly which graphics card you own. Then search the manufacturer’s website for the official driver. Make sure you’re getting the correct file for your version of Windows. Downloading the wrong driver can sometimes cause more problems.

Restoring My Confidence with a Safety Net

I never like updating a driver without a safety net. Drivers can be tricky. The right update can solve an issue, but downloading the wrong file can create new problems. Updating Drivers for My Display

I started with updating my graphics driver first. I also updated a few drivers connected to my graphics card. The install process was super easy.
